1. Review the message from State Superintendent Torlakson about the importance of the new Tdap vaccine requirement
2. Review the new suggested checklist also posted at http://www.shotsforschool.org/toolsforschools.html.
3. Call into a California Department of Public Health “Open House” one-hour teleconferencehttp://shotsforschool.org/register/openhousecalls/ for one of the following where schools will describe their Tdap vaccine record collection programs and discuss their questions. If interested, please register online at
· Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 3 pm – 4 pm
· Monday, March 28, 2011 from 2 pm – 3 pm
Staff at the same location should call from one phone line to accommodate as many participants as possible. Email your questions to Tdaplaw@cdph.ca.gov with subject line “Open House Question”. Questions sent by March 22nd will be prioritized for discussion on the calls.
4. Continue alerting parents and students to the following messages:
· “Got Tdap yet?” - If you haven’t already, get your pertussis (Tdap) booster shot
o Check in with your doctor
o Spring Break may be a good time for a doctor visit
· Get a record of the Tdap booster shot from your doctor
· Bring your immunization record to school now!
5. Post these messages above and downloadable electronic web banners on your school’s
· Websites, emails and electronic newsletters
· Marquee or billboard
· 2011-2012 Calendar
· Report Cards and other notices
· Community partners’ communications
6. Develop your record collection systems and begin collecting Tdap records as soon as possible.
· Instruct parents about when and how to submit Tdap records
· Update phone and electronic messaging to reflect this information
· Develop a system and instructions for submitting records from students who get Tdap during summer
7. Over 700,000 adolescents in California have Tdap doses recorded in the California Immunization Registry (CAIR), which can print out Blue Cards that already indicate when Tdap has been given – Contact the CAIR Help Desk at 800-578-7889 or www.cairweb.org for more information about becoming a CAIR user if you aren’t one already.
